INSIDE: Adapting user and partner privileges – a guide to rights management
The Rights Management introduced with Version 5.0 of the Control Panel allows partners and customers to define individual access privileges (rights) for each partner and user. We explain how this is done below.
Say you are a partner or administrator. To manage privileges, you go to the Management area of the Control Panel and select the partner or domain administrator for whom you want to change the privileges.
If you click the “Rights Management” tab, you can enable or disable the various privileges globally, as required. To do this, select the respective hierarchy level (Users, Admins or Partners). Note that administrators can only grant or deny privileges for “their” users. Clicking on one of the various submenus will show the corresponding rules and current activity. Double-clicking opens a window in which you can define the privileges.
Administrators have the additional capability to manage individual user privileges, provided the respective user is known to the system. Among other things, this environment also allows you to define specific criteria for setting passwords, such as a specific length or use of special characters.
You can also set up accesses over specific IP addresses here. This is a great advantage if certain processes, say help desk functions, are to be outsourced to external companies, and these are to be granted access to predefined modules.
Important: Don’t forget to save the new privilege settings!
