CURRENT: Beware of gift tips and e-cards

Christmas lies right in front of us and it’s time to think about gifts and presents for the beloved. Emails providing you with tips, vouchers and unbeatable offers are just what you need right now. But be careful: those messages can contain malicious content and ruin your Christmas party.

Compared to last year, the amount of spam has decreased. Still, towards the end of the year spam waves are rolling through the Internet, causing a surge of spam mails. The idea is always the same. Emails with tips and clues for Christmas presents are joining the “normal” junk mails. With the Managed Security Services from antispameurope those emails can’t reach the company’s networks any longer, as they are detected and sorted out before that.

“All users should not only be cautious with dubious offers, but also with so called e-cards”, says Olaf Petry, Head of IT Operations. “Most of the time e-cards can be detected through the unknown sender. The problem is that they could have been distributed by a Trojan from a friend’s infected computer. Another possibility is a spam mail with a link to an alleged e-card. This link then leads to a malicious website.  Our URL scanner, which is included in our spam and web filter services, can protect you from this.”
