How are emails being filtered?

Emails are passing through a system of static, dynamic and self-learning filters and rule types, which are reliably detecting spam. Filtering takes place in two steps. The first step takes care of those messages that - with the highest probability possible - are obviously spam. In these cases our systems break the connection with the sending server giving an error message and a reason. The vast majority of incoming mails (currently > 99%) is actually being blocked this way and not transmitted to quarantine. False positive rate at this point is extremely low at less than 1 per 1 billion mails. 

In the second step, senders, subject, text, links and attachments in the mail are analyzed automatically and rated. If the rating variable exceeds a certain value, the email will be put into quarantine and can still be retrieved manually.

Does antispameurope read my emails?

No. emails are rated automatically by programs.

How can emails with new and unknown content be detected?

Spam mails have a significant structure that our spam filters detect instantly. We are continuously improving our so-called signatures for detection of new spam mails by analyzing the millions of spam mails we receive every day. Our spam filters are updated every 60 seconds, that’s why we are able to filter new types of spam right from the beginning of of a wave.

Am I protected against emails with viruses, Trojans or so-called phishing mails?

Yes. We do not deliver messages with corruptive content. Virus signatures in our operating virus scanners are – same as the spam signatures – updated every 60 seconds.

Do you really detect all spam mails?

No, a detection rate of 100% is impossible, even theoretically. However, our rate of undetected spam is below 0.01%. If you have received an unwanted ad mail you can safely assume that we just filtered out at least 10,000 other spam mails for you.

Which criteria are being used to filter spam?

Typically undesired sent messages (unsolicited bulk E-Mail) are blocked. Please see the Wikipedia article at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spam (electronic) for further information.

Do you block emails that I would rather receive?

Our filters especially block bulk emails, e.g. those for forged goods, dubious credit offers, X-rated or illegal content. Furthermore, our filters are automatically adapted through your feedback, e.g. when you release an email from quarantine.

Which delay is caused by your filters? Do I have to wait for my email?

Our highly optimized filters and systems routinely process an email in less than 30 seconds. In rare cases (e.g. with difficult types of spam) delays caused are slightly higher. In any case, we guarantee an average of less than 3 minutes.

False suspicion

Is your system broken? I received an email which is unambiguously spam!

As explained before, this can happen in scarce cases (statistically below 0.01%). Please forward this mail (as attachment) to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . We will update our filters for you.

Can emails be falsely rated and blocked, even though it is no spam?

This is theoretically possible, yet statistically unlikely. This would be a so-called “false positive”. Our technology department has calculated the spam detecting thresholds in long and careful tests, so that our guaranteed false positive rate is below 0.0004%. On average we reach an even better actual rate of consistently less than 0.0001%.

I am waiting for an email that had been sent to me, but I didn’t receive it yet. Was it blocked?

In this case you can lookup all your email traffic using our web based control panel at https://control.antispameurope.com. As an alternative, please contact our support (via email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or phone: +49 511-260 905-50). Please tell us your email address and the approximate date and time of transmission. We will verify, whether this email has been received by our mail server.

If an email was blocked, is it possible to re-deliver this mail subsequently?

The “Spammanager” informs you about detected and quarantined spam emails on a daily basis. The blocked messages will be stored on the system for 3 months. If you wish, the email will be delivered to the Spammanager by a mouse click.

Quarantine access is also possible using our web interface at https://control.antispameurope.com.

Data Security

Does antispameurope read my emails?

The messages are automatically rated by our systems and forwarded to your Inbox. A couple of millions of emails daily would not allow any other way of dealing with this. Furthermore, we are complying with the German Data Security law.

Does antispameurope read quarantined emails?

No. Quarantined messages will be stored, but the content is confident and protected by law.

Technical Questions

Do I have to purchase software licences, additional software or hardware?

No, the required technology is provided by our data centres, the Spam- and virus-free emails will be delivered to your Inbox.

What is the ratio between detected and not detected Spam mails?

On average 99,990 among 100,000 spam mails are being blocked correctly by our innovative technology. Less than 10 mails are not identified as spam and delivered.

How do you make sure, that “genuine” emails are not being blocked?

Our filter stages work defensively, that means that in case of doubt, the E-Mail will be treated as a desired email and will be delivered. In addition, we run a sophisticated quality management system that can subsequently correct a wrong categorization.

Is email filtering also possible for messages with non-western character set?

Yes, our filter technology also works with emails with Asian or Cyrillic character sets.

Yes, our product works independently from hardware and software.

Do I have to install updates on a regular basis?

No. Since you don’t have to install anything, there is no need to install updates either.

Isn’t filtering for typical spam phrases and for spam senders sufficient?

The choice of words within ad mails (also called spam signature), is changing permanently. The senders constantly use new sender addresses, maybe also the addresses of your business partners and acquaintances. antispameurope updates its spam signatures in minute cycles based on information from hundreds of millions of analyzed spam messages.
